Place: Wakulla Springs State Park , Pavilion Conference Room

Admission to the park is free for workshop participants

Format: This workshop included a mixture of presentations about source water protection, demonstrations of the DEP source water assessment system and the Florida Aquifer Vulnerability Assessment (FAVA), and facilitated discussions to foster cooperative efforts across various agencies and organizations.

Programs Invited: Department of Health, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Department of Community Affairs, Department of Transportation, Northwest Florida Water Management District, South Florida Water Management District, St. Johns River Water Management District, Suwannee River Water Management District, and Southwest Water Management District

Background

Since 2004, Florida DEP has conducted Source Water Assessments for all public water systems in Florida . These assessments identify potential sources of contamination in source water protection areas, and rank the susceptibility of the water supply to these potential sources. Information and methods developed as part of these assessments include the source water assessment results/reports, the data sets used in the assessment process, and the Florida Aquifer Vulnerability Assessment (FAVA) -- a tool developed by the Florida Geological Survey to use in predicting aquifer vulnerability.
